Former Texas A&M environmental design student [Dan Darr] (http://www.dannydarr.com/) ’93 explores untold stories, dreams and the difference between the ways we remember things and the way they really were in a series of paintings at the Arlington Museum of Art.

Darr’s paintings are part of the museum’s " [Points of View] (http://www.artknowledgenews.com/03_09_2011_21_01_41_the_arlington_museum_of_art_presents_five_artists_points_of_view.html?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+artknowledge+%28Art+Knowledge+News+-+Keeping+You+in+Touch+with+the+World+of+Art...%29) ” exhibit, in which five artists interpret their world through oils, acrylics, watercolor, mixed media and digital paintings. The show runs through Sept. 30.

“I happened to find some old photographs in a flea market,” said Darr.  “They immediately provoked questions with their mystery: ‘Who are these people? What was their life like? What did they love about life? What happened right before or after this photo was taken? Why did their photos end up in a flea market?’”

He said he decided to give the photos a second life.

“I make guesses about the people in the photo,” he said. “Sometimes I will change the composition, but I always paint the image in color, to make the people and their situation feel more real to the viewer.”

Darr, whose art has won awards in juried shows, is an art teacher at Arlington Martin High School.
