Art by [Felice House] (http://felicehouse.com/about/) , assistant professor of visualization, is part of the Oct. 18 – Dec. 16 ["Women Painting Women: In Earnest"] (http://www.nccsc.net/events/women-painting-women-earnest) exhibit at the J. Wayne Stark Galleries in the Memorial Student Center on the Texas A&M campus.

The Texas A&M exhibition, sponsored by the College of Architecture’s Wright Gallery, features 53 paintings from 30 contemporary female artists exploring the complexity of modern womanhood.

“Each artist looks beyond the surface of her subject, beyond mere replication of the physical world before her, in search of deeper realities,” said exhibit co-curator Alia El-Bermani. “These artists have found a freedom to avoid voyeuristic depictions of the female form to examine honest and sometimes personal narratives about the struggles and resilience of the indomitable contemporary woman.”

The Wright Gallery hosted a live painting demonstration by featured artists Oct. 18 at its new location on the second floor of the Langford Architecture Center. Additionally, a panel discussion with featured artists was held in the presentation room adjacent to the gallery.

Also on Oct. 19, an opening reception for "Women Painting Women: In Earnest" will be held at 5:30 – 7:30 p.m. Stark Galleries, in the MSC.

The exhibits and events are free to the public.
