SIGGRAPH 2014, the world’s premier computer graphics and interactive techniques conference, will once again feature a large presence from faculty and students at Texas A&M’s Department of Visualization.
For a schedule of Aggie participation at SIGGRAPH 2014, visit the Viz@SIGGRAPH page.
This year’s conference, scheduled August 10-14 in the Vancouver Convention Centre, will include research paper presentations by Viz faculty, a presentation of an app created by Jinsil Hwaryoung Seo, assistant professor of visualization, that teaches children about anatomy, and posters illustrating work by Viz faculty and students.
More visualization department presentations are scheduled to be added as the SIGGRAPH schedule has yet to be finalized.
The event will also include a discussion panel, "An Evaluation of University Education as it Relates to the Visual Effects, Animation and Game Industries,” that was proposed by Margaret Lomas-Carpenter, assistant to the visualization department head.
Lomas-Carpenter, who has been with the visualization program for 16 years, will serve as moderator of the panel discussion, which will include Frederic Parke, professor of visualization, Michelle Robinson ‘91, Character Look Development Supervisor at Walt Disney Animation Studios and Dave Walvoord II ‘96, visual FX supervisor at DreamWorks Animation Studios. Robinson and Walvoord are both outstanding alumni of the College of Architecture.
A reception in Vancouver for the many Vizzers employed in the computer graphics industry and Viz faculty and current students is scheduled 7 p.m. August 12 at a venue to be determined.
