A religious sculpture garden in the Texas Hill Country is attracting visitors because of God’s presence at the site, said its builder, Max Greiner Jr. ‘74, a former Texas A&M environmental design student.

“They're coming for the supernatural,” Greiner told the San Antonio Express-News in an article published December 24. “People are being saved here; they're getting healed.”

Greiner designed the garden’s centerpiece , a 77-foot, 7-inch tall cross, erected in 2010 at the site on Interstate 10 in Kerrville, approximately 65 miles northwest of San Antonio.

Seven large Biblically themed sculptures created by Greiner and two artists have been installed in the garden, which became accessible to the public by a road completed in July; Greiner foresees building approximately two dozen such pieces in the garden for display.

He’s building the garden as funding allows: approximately $3 million is needed to complete roads, trails and landscaping for the 300-foot-long, cross-shaped site, and about $5 million more is needed for building construction.

“There is something special about this place,” Luis Sosa , 39, told the Express-News. “People come here to pray and to have some moments of peace and to connect their soul with God.”
