The book also includes six pages of links to organizations offering scholarships.

A first-generation college graduate, Brisby said he began researching the topic in 2007.

He has a Bachelor of Urban Studies degree from Morehouse College and a certificate in broadcasting from the American Broadcasting School.

His research interests include the direct use of social capital as an agent of community and economic development and the education and socialization of the African-American male. He has contributed to the Morehouse College Community Revitalization Initiative, where he focused on local business creation, the Next Great American Poet, a spoken-word educational program based in Atlanta and served two terms as an apprentice for the Georgia Legislative Black Caucus.

During a stint as an on-air personality at KEOS Radio in College Station, his show received local praise for being hip and inspiring.
