Aggie Workshop took holistic approach to landscape design

Professional landscape architects shared their knowledge at the 2012 Aggie Workshop, a in a series of presentations, discussion panels and charrettes at Texas A&M's Langford Architecture Center.

The 37th annual conference, which was open to landscape architecture students from all universities, was hosted by Texas A&M’s student chapter of the American Society of Landscape Architects.

Workshop chairman Edgar Jaimes said this year’s Workshop theme, “Holistic Approach to Design, a Look Into Trans-Disciplinary Interaction,” was chosen to illustrate landscape architects’ roles when collaborating with practitioners in other professions.

The event’s keynote speaker, Mary Margaret Jones ‘79, is president and senior principal of Hargreaves Associates, a full-service landscape architecture, planning and urban design firm serving an international clientele from offices in San Francisco, Cambridge, Massachusetts, New York and London. Jones earned a Bachelor of Landscape Architecture degree at Texas A&M.

Jones, overseeing planning and design of the London 2012 Olympic Park, has served as senior principal in charge of award winning projects such as Discovery Green in Houston, the 2000 Sydney Olympics Master Concept Design, University of Cincinnati Master Plan, Guadalupe River Park in San Jose, Calif., and Crissy Field in San Francisco.

Other workshop speakers include Jim Carillo, vice president and director of planning at Halff Associates, David Hocker, founding principal of the Hocker Design Group, John Moon of MoonDesign and Paul Wilson ’04 of Rialto Studio. Wilson earned a Bachelor of Landscape Architecture degree at Texas A&M.

Speakers also participated in charrettes and a panel discussion.
