John Murphy ‘82, dean of the University of Texas at San Antonio’s College of Architecture, has been elected secretary-treasurer of the [Architecture + Construction Alliance] (http://aplusca.info/index.html) , a national organization that aims to foster education and research efforts between the fields of architecture and construction.

Murphy earned three degrees at Texas A&M: a doctoral degree in architecture with an emphasis in construction science and management in 1993, a Master of Construction Management degree in 1983, and a Bachelor of Building Construction degree in 1982.

UTSA, Texas A&M and Prairie View A&M are three of only 14 universities nationwide eligible for membership in the A+CA because they teach both disciplines within the same college.

"Playing an active role in this distinguished group of colleges of architecture places UTSA’s College of Architecture in a position to participate in, and give direction to, UTSA’s future education of design and construction discipline leaders in a context of integrated process and project delivery,” said Murphy.

"Through collaboration across the involved colleges, we hope to further facilitate this architectural education strategy on a national level."

Murphy joined UTSA in 2009 after serving as director of international education at Auburn University's McWhorter School of Building Science.

Thomas J. Regan, professor of architecture and former dean at Texas A&M’s College of Architecture, is a co-founder and executive director of the A+CA.
