Architecture professor named to global solar energy group board

Liliana Beltrán, associate professor of architecture at Texas A&M, is part of a global effort to lead renewable energy technology education, development and implementation as a new board member of the International Solar Energy Society.

She was elected to the ISES board by its U.S. component, the American Solar Energy Society. The ISES board then named her vice president of conference affairs and a member of its executive committee in 2012-2013.

The ISES aims to provide scientifically credible, current renewable energy and energy efficiency information and networking opportunities to the global communities of scientists, educators, practitioners, industries, policymakers and the general public.

ISES initiatives include supporting research, scientific exchange, the integration of renewable energy technology into a wide variety of application areas, and promoting renewable energy technologies in Africa.

Beltrán’s areas of interest are sustainability, green building design tools, energy efficiency, daylighting design and analysis, intelligent building facades, and climate-responsive design of vernacular and contemporary architecture. She joined the Texas A&M faculty in 2002.

Beltrán and her students earned an [award] (http://archone.tamu.edu/college/news/newsletters/spring2010/stories/Beltran_solarpipe.html) in a contest sponsored by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency in April 2010 for their solar light pipe system, which transports natural light into a building’s interior.
