Student work premieres at SXSW

Oscar Berrio

Oscar Berrio’s experimental short, “Vertigo”, will make its world premiere in Austin at the South by Southwest Festival (SXSW). Working on a Ph.D. in Hispanic Studies, Oscar has been taking courses in the Department of Visualization as part of his personal goal to study and integrate poetry and the visual arts. The structure and imagery of “Vertigo” are based upon the rhythmic cycles of a poem by the same name. Oscar created “Vertigo” as an assignment for VIZA-644. His professor, Viz faculty member Carol LaFayette, encouraged Oscar to submit his work to SXSW and it paid off. “Vertigo” can be seen at SXSW on Sunday, March 14th.
